Changes to report promptly
Contact a clinician about spreading redness, increasing pain, new pus, fever, or a wound that is deteriorating. A foot that becomes cold or discolored also needs urgent assessment. Follow any more specific instructions from the treating team.
A diabetic foot wound should not be overlooked
Diabetes may reduce sensation, so pain is not a reliable measure of how serious a foot wound is. A new foot wound or a change in the skin should be reviewed promptly.
When routine scheduling is not appropriate
Severe illness, rapidly worsening symptoms, or uncontrolled bleeding require emergency care. Do not wait for a callback or a routine mobile visit in these circumstances.
General information cannot establish a diagnosis or determine the severity of an individual wound. When in doubt about a concerning change, seek medical assessment.
