Understanding the change in the wound

Assessment considers the procedure and wound history, current treatment, tissue condition, drainage, surrounding skin, and relevant medical conditions. The goal is to understand the concern and determine the appropriate next step.

Care coordinated with the treating team

The plan may include wound dressings, appropriate local care, and evaluation for infection or other complications. Recommendations are considered alongside the surgeon’s instructions and existing orders.

Mobile wound care does not replace urgent surgical assessment or hospital treatment when that level of care is needed.

Knowing when to seek further care

New or increasing redness, drainage, pain, wound opening, or fever should be reported promptly to the treating team. Follow-up arrangements depend on the wound findings, the person’s overall condition, and the surgical care plan.

Common questions

Does a mobile visit replace my surgeon’s instructions?

No. Continue to follow the treating surgeon’s guidance. Wound care recommendations are coordinated with the existing surgical plan.

Does drainage always mean an antibiotic is needed?

No. Drainage has different causes. A clinician assesses the wound and determines whether infection treatment or another intervention is appropriate.
